This is the second year straight that an American was drafted first (Patrick Kane, by the Chicago Blackhawks). Last year, it was Erik Johnson, by the Saint Louis Blues. (Johnson will start playing this season.)
There were 10 Americans, 16 Canadians, one Russian, one Swedish, and one Czech Republican.
For the first time in NHL Draft history, 2 Americans were selected as the first 2 picks.
Tallest player drafted in round 1- Keaton Ellerby, Florida Panthers (6'4").
Most picks- Saint Louis Blues and Edmonton Oilers (3).
Alexi Sherepanov was expected to be drafted early, but was not chosen until the 17th pick, by the New York Rangers.
Suprisingly, no goalies were picked in round 1.
Next year's NHL Draft will be held at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
